Fabian Edwards almost didn’t make it to the PFL World Tournament.
After visa issues led to a brief exit, Edwards returned to the middleweight bracket within a week, and he showed why he might be the odds-on favorite with a second-round stoppage of Impa Kasanganay in an opening-round pairing at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, on Friday night. The former Bellator MMA title challenger will next face Joshua Silveira in a semifinal bout on June 27 in Chicago.
The 15th-ranked Brit has lived in the shadow of his older brother, former UFC welterweight king Leon, but a successful run through the middleweight tourney could go a long way toward shining the spotlight on “The Assassin.” Some more good news for Edwards: Johnny Eblen, the man who handed him his last two defeats, is nowhere to be found in the bracket.
