By The Numbers: Brandon Moreno-Deiveson Figueiredo Tetralogy

Brandon Moreno def. Deiveson Figueiredo R3 5:00 via TKO (Doctor Stoppage)

It felt as though they were attached at the hip for years.

Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo made history and helped the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight division get back on its feet, as they locked horns four times between Dec. 12, 2020 and Jan. 21, 2023. Moreno won two of the three encounters, with the other ending in a stalemate on the scorecards. Now two-plus years removed from what figures to be their final pairing, the two former champions remain interminably linked by what took place between them inside the cage.

As the distance between them widens with each passing day, a by-the-numbers look at the unforgettable Moreno-Figueiredo rivalry:

770: Days between the first and fourth Moreno-Figueiredo meetings. They fought to a majority draw at UFC 256 in December 2020, then split their next two rematches: Moreno dismissed the Brazilian with a rear-naked choke in third round of their UFC 263 clash in June 2021, while Figueiredo outpointed “The Assassin Baby” to a five-round unanimous decision at UFC 270 in January 2022. That set the stage for the tiebreaker. Moreno prompted a doctor stoppage against “Deus da Guerra” in between the third and fourth rounds of their fourth confrontation at UFC 283 in January 2023.

17,387: Fans to witness the third installment of the Moreno Figueiredo rivalry in the UFC 270 co-main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. It was the highest attendance figure of the tetralogy—undoubtedly buoyed by the Francis Ngannou-Ciryl Gane headliner—and resulted in a gate in excess of nearly $5.3 million.

4,646: Seconds of fight time in the Moreno-Figueiredo series. They battled one another inside the Octagon for 1:17:26—the equivalent of a little more than 15 rounds.

700: Combined total strikes landed by Moreno and Figueiredo in their tetralogy. More than 40% of those (286) were landed the first time they squared off.

4: Submission attempts between them in their four bouts. Only Moreno succeeded, as he tapped the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in their first rematch. No other man before or since has forced Figueiredo to submit.

66: Significant strikes by which Moreno outlanded Figueiredo in their rivalry. He connected with 332 such strikes while absorbing only 266 of them in return.

10: Takedowns completed by Moreno at Figueiredo’s expense, and he did so with a takedown accuracy rate of 56% (10-for-18). Moreno, by comparison, converted six of his 18 attempts (33%).

3: Knockdowns credited to Figueiredo in the series, all of them at UFC 270. It stands out as the only fight on his resume in which he produced multiple knockdowns and failed to procure a finish.

946: Seconds of control time awarded to Moreno in the series. Figueiredo accumulated only 318.

.556: Cumulative winning percentage between the two men since the completion of their tetralogy. Figueiredo has moved up to bantamweight and gone 3-2 in five appearances, his victories over Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt and Marlon Vera offset by losses to Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen. Moreno, meanwhile, has compiled a 2-2 record in four outings, as he has lost to Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval before beating Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg.
